Ways to get involved in our school this month, because teamwork makes the dream work!:

• Please complete your household’s classroom roster form today (1 form per household)
  • We have all filled out numerous forms as part of the new school year, and we appreciate how it may feel overwhelming. This form will help to streamline our communications a lot! Please take a few minutes to complete it as soon as you can.

• Looking for a new Book Fair Chair!
  • Have you ever dreamed of opening your own book store? If so, then we have an awesome volunteer opportunity for you! Our current Book Fair Co-Chairs are looking for a parent volunteer (or two) to roll up their sleeves and shadow them this year from planning logistics through set-up and execution of the Fair which is scheduled for December 8-12th. This person would then take over as Book Fair Chair next year. Reach out to Angela Acuff [email protected] and Mandy Glogow [email protected] for more information.

• Get cleared today, to help through the year! The requirements for new & returning volunteers are as follows:

      2. Complete the application/renewal steps
      3. Submit your TB clearance result (less than 30 days old) to Sul Lee (Rm29)

Friends of Third’s Annual Giving Drive updates!

Thank you to all the families that have already donated to the Annual Giving Drive.  Your early support is appreciated!  We've already achieved 46% participation in our first week!

For those of you that have yet to donate, you may be wondering why Friends of Third asks you to donate funds to a public school.  Unfortunately, because LAUSD does not cover the costs of vital programs at our school, we are left with a funding gap of $620,000 to pay for technology, science, drama, music, art, campus improvements and more at our school. These are all programs and services your kids love and we parents want as part of our children’s education.   With your help, Friends of Third steps in to pay for these costs.  That is only possibly through the generous donations of our Third Street families.

The suggested Annual Giving donation is $1,450 per student but every meaningful donation, no matter the amount, is important to help us to meet our goal.

2025-26 Annual Giving Participation Tracker

Our goal is 100% school-wide participation.  If each family contributes, no matter the amount, all students benefit.  As an added incentive, each class to reach 100% class participation will have a donut party and your teacher will receive a gift card:

1st 3 classes to 100% = $200 teacher gift card

2nd 3 classes to 100% = $150 teacher gift card

3rd 3 classes to 100% = $100 teacher gift card

Each class that reaches 100% participation thereafter will earn a $50 gift card for their teacher. Let’s work together toward 100% school-wide participation since 100% of our kids benefit from these great programs!

 

Annual Giving Drive에 기부한 모든 가족들에게 감사드립니다. 여러분의 빠른 지원에 감사드립니다!  우리는 첫 주에 이미 46%의 참여를 달성했습니다!

아직 기부를 하지 않은 분들 중 Friends of Third가 공립학교인 3가 학교에 기부를 요청하는 이유가 궁금하신 분도 있을 것 입니다. 안타깝게도, LAUSD의 지원자금만으로는 우리학교의 기술, 과학, 드라마, 음악, 미술, 캠퍼스 개선 등을 위한 비용을 충당 할 수 없으므로, 이 모든 프로그램등을 지원하기 위해선 52만 달러의 자금이 필요하게 됩니다. 이 모든 프로그램과 서비스들은 우리의 아이들이 사랑하고 우리 부모님들이 우리 아이들 교육의 일부로 원하는 것들 입니다. 여러분의 도움으로, Friends of Third는 이 비용들을 지불할 수 있도록 돕고 나섭니다. 이 모든 것들은 우리의 3가 가족들의 아낌없는 기부를 통해서만 가능합니다.

제안된 연간 기부 금액은 학생 1인당 1,450달러이지만 금액에 상관없이 모든 의미 있는 기부는 우리의 목표를 달성하는 데 중요합니다.

2025-26 Annual Giving Participation Tracker

Applications remain open for our MCC Kindness Buddy Program! 

The MCC Kindness Buddy Program fosters empathy, kindness, and connection across grade levels. By placing students in a Mentor / Mentee partnership, we create opportunities for every child to both lead and be cared for while spreading kindness into daily school life. The Mentor Buddy is typically older and provides guidance, encouragement, and support to the younger Mentee Buddy. They will meet monthly during lunch to connect, participate in activities, and build a long-lasting friendship. If your child is interested in being an MCC Kindness Mentor or Mentee Buddy, please work with them to complete this form by Friday, September 26, 2025.

 

A call for our young artists! Sign up your student to participate in the PTA’s annual Reflections Art Program!

Let our students’ creative visions shine as they express what the theme, “I belong!” means to them. Submissions are open, and may be submitted using this form. 

 

Traffic Safety

Traffic safety for this week is assigned to room 18 (S. Lee) and next week it is assigned to room 19 (A. Kim). If you are in one of these classes (or just love lending a hand first thing in the morning), please sign up here: Traffic Safety Valet Sign Up.

Additional traffic safety reminders: Please help keep our students, community, and neighbors safe by making safe choices when driving and walking around the school - especially during drop off. Please: no u-turns, no parking in red zones, no jaywalking, no left turns onto 3rd Street 7-9am.

In Celebration of Korean American Day (Jan 13th) 🇰🇷🇺🇸, the Korean Education Center in LA (KECLA) is excited to host the "2026 Korean American Day Shorts Contest" as follows:

• • Contestants: K-5th grade, 6-12th grade, and undergraduate students (individual or team) 
    • 👉 Team must be comprised of members from the same age group category 
  • Topic: “The Best Korean I’ve Ever Met” (Shorts video introducing a Korean individual who has positively influenced your life
    • 👉 Examples: A Korean friend or teacher who changed your life, an activist who made you proud of your Korean heritage, a young Korean leader making an impact on the global stage, etc.
  • Format: Vertical video, up to 60 seconds in length (FHD 1080×1920 recommended)
  • Submission: Both of the following steps must be completed for a valid submission
    • Upload your video to your personal YouTube channel, including the hashtags “#KECLA” and “#2026KOREANAMERICANDAY”
